2: Travel To Korea

When traveling to Korea, you will be required to complete a self-check health questionnaire as a precautionary measure to demonstrate your well-being. You have the option to fill out this questionnaire either upon your arrival or in advance via the Q-Code website. It’s important to note that the use of a QR Code is no longer obligatory for entry into South Korea. Nevertheless, having a Q-Code can significantly expedite the quarantine inspection process, enhancing convenience for visitors.

While there is no mandatory testing requirement before your flight, it is advisable to conduct a self-test to ensure your health and safety. In the event that you test positive for COVID-19 while in Korea, it is recommended that you consider a self-quarantine period of 5 days, although this is no longer enforced by authorities. While copies of your vaccination records are not obligatory, it is advisable to have a printed copy on hand for reference.

3: Pre-Travel Checklist

Before embarking on your journey to Korea, consider pre-ordering an eSIM card, a regular SIM card, or a portable WiFi router to pick up at the airport. This way, you can stay connected as soon as you land. While you can exchange a small amount of money before your trip, you can also make use of the airport ATMs to obtain Korean won upon your arrival.

It’s important to note that exchange rates can vary significantly, so it’s advisable to compare rates before exchanging a substantial sum of money. You can easily convert USD to KRW at banks or currency exchange outlets located in major tourist areas such as central Seoul (popular spots like Myeongdong and Namdaemun are convenient, but the Coex Center also offers currency exchange services). Additionally, you have the option to negotiate the exchange rate with the vendor if you find it to be too high.

For cash withdrawals, bank ATMs are readily available. Alternatively, you can opt for a pre-paid travel card like the one offered by Wise, which enables both ATM withdrawals and payments, functioning seamlessly in Korea.

Lastly, remember to bring a travel adapter for your electronic devices and leave ample space in your suitcase for the numerous Korean souvenirs and treats you’ll undoubtedly acquire during your trip.

No, tourists from the United States do not require a tourist visa for entry into South Korea. You can enjoy a visa-free stay for a period of up to 90 days. However, it is necessary to complete the K-ETA application before your trip and provide your travel itinerary and hotel information during the application process.

The majority of COVID-19 regulations in Korea have been lifted, leaving just two key rules in place. First, it remains mandatory to wear face masks when visiting medical facilities, particularly hospitals. Additionally, South Korea no longer enforces a mandatory 7-day quarantine period for individuals within the country.

For those who test positive for COVID-19 while in Korea, the government recommends a 5-day self-quarantine period, although this recommendation is not legally enforced.

Travelers planning a visit to Korea are advised to adhere to the existing restrictions, as failure to do so may result in fines or deportation.
